How Do We Know Our Ballot Is Protected? Panel Discussion at the Palatine Public Library

At this public panel discussion, Cook County Deputy Clerk Ed Michalowski will talk about what Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon and her office is doing to protect voters and their votes in this important election. Former Congresswomen and Eighth Cong. Candidate Melissa Bean will discuss federal legislation regarding voting, and Ed Yohnka, director of communications and public policy for the Illinois ACLU, will discuss the larger issue of what threats our elections are facing and what voters can do to protect their vote. This event is cosponsored by Greater Palatine Area Democrats, Elk Grove Township Democrats, Wheeling Township Democrats, NWSOFA-Northwest Suburbs Chicago Indivisible and Indivisible Barrington.

Greater Palatine Area Democrats will join Wheeling Township Democrats for a Joint Canvass for Carina Santa Maria for State Senate and Mary Beth Canty for State Representative. The two organizations will double the canvassing power!

Center of Concern - Fall Community Service Day

Center of Concern has been operating since 1978. Their mission is to provide housing solutions, support services and counseling for older adults, people with disabilities and others in need, enabling them to live with dignity and independence. Every fall and spring the Center hosts community service days to help older adults with outdoor chores. Individuals, couples and groups are invited to volunteer. Students can earn up to 6 service hours!

When: Saturday September 26th. Morning shift: 9:00-12:00pm. Afternoon shift: 12:00-3:00pm

Living and Giving Garden of Elk Grove Village is a volunteer-run organic food pantry in Elk Grove Village whose mission is to educate about sustainable farming and feed the community. They would love more volunteers to help plant, maintain and harvest crops every Saturday morning from 9:00-11:00am and Tuesday evenings from 5:15-6:30pm.

NWSRA: Northwest Special Recreation Association is a collaborative organization that provides recreational programs for individuals with disabilities in partnership with 17 park districts in the NW suburbs; their main office is in Rolling Meadows. They offer a wide range of activities: sports, arts, social activities and community outings, led by certified staff to help people with disabilities build skills, have fun and make friends. NWSOFA is known for their commitment to inclusion and has received awards for their services. Unlike one time volunteer opportunities, NWSRA volunteers join for an entire program season. After completing the application process, interview and training, volunteers are matched with programs that fit their interests and schedule. Many volunteers return season after season, building lasting and life enriching relationships. Imagine the impact you could have!

WINGS Pantry: Provides essential items to domestic violence survivors and their children across all of their programs. Each month they fulfill an average of 140 pantry requests for food, hygiene items, baby supplies, cleaning products, bedding and more. During the summer donations slow down but the need continues to grow! Whether you donate personally or host a donation drive with friends in your community, every contribution helps to provide comfort, dignity and hope to survivors rebuilding their lives.

Clearbrook is another home, a family, to over 8,000 children and adults impacted by intellectual/developmental disabilities. They support them and their families by providing personalized support, helping them to live their fullest lives possible.

**They currently have an urgent need for donors, especially Type O**
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. This could be a little girl in the ICU or a mother with Stage 3 leukemia. If you’re worried about needles, don’t be—most blood donors compare the experience to a mild, split-second pinch! The entire process is very safe and very fast, and you will feel amazing knowing you potentially saved up to three people.

Emmaus House of Hospitality: a ministry of hospitality dedicated to neighbors struggling with poverty, providing food, clothing and funding for shelter. Each Thursday afternoon they pick up food at or near expiration that would otherwise be discarded from local grocery stores and bring it to their facility to store in refrigerators and freezers. People can then stop in and shop for what they need, no proof of residency or need required. We'll host a volunteer event on an upcoming Sunday afternoon 1-4pm. More details to come once the date is confirmed.

Pride Month is here! Help make support, acceptance, and belonging visible across Palatine!

The Community Mental Health Project is proud to partner with Northwest Suburban Pride & Action Network and Glens Friends for a community-wide Palatine Pride yard sign campaign supporting local LGBTQ+ mental health programs and initiatives right here in Palatine.

With a contribution of $20 or more, supporters will receive a complimentary Palatine Pride yard sign delivered directly to their home by local volunteers.

These signs are more than decorations. They’re visible reminders that LGBTQ+ individuals and families are valued, supported, and welcome in our community.
